The Charlie McClendon Story: Put Me Down Easy

Charlie McClendon has been the musical director at Goodwill Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia since 1984. But in the 1960s, he was a prominent rhythm and blues singer who, with his band the Magnificents, was one of the  cornerstones of the “Norfolk Sound.” With support from L-Rev record founder Steve Herman, the Virginia Folklife Program has created an online exhibit about Charlie McClendon featuring a 30-minute documentary film titled “Put Me Down Easy,” photos, and interview clips.
