VFP concerts, talks, and workshops for summer and fall 2011 will cover a wide array of Virginia musical traditions and regional styles, including Blue Ridge bluegrass and old time, gospel, Piedmont and Coalfields blues and more.

  • FloydFest
    July 28-31, Floyd, VA
    Drop in at the Virginia Workshop Porch to hear artists including the Carolina Chocolate Drops, David Grisman Sextet, Del McCoury Band, Jorma Kaukonen, Linda Lay and Sammy Shelor, Maggie Ingram & the Ingramettes, Nat Reese, Peter Rowan &  Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Whitetop Mountain Band, and more!
  • Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship Showcase
    Sunday Sept. 11, Charlottesville, VA
    This one-day free festival, on the grounds of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, showcases the stunning music, crafts, food, and traditional skills of Virginia’s Folk Masters and their apprentices.
  • Bristol Rhythm & Roots
    September 16-18 Bristol, VA/TN
    One of the better kept secrets in Virginia, the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion has developed into one of the finest musical festivals in the state, and we’re proud to once again host the Virginia Folklife Stage, featuring workshops, performances, and musical conversations. Past guests have included Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs, Doyle Lawson, Justin Townes Earle, and Jim Lauderdale.
  • Richmond Folk Festival
    October 14-16 Richmond, VA
    Since its beginning as the National Folk Festival, the Virginia Folklife Area and Stage at the Richmond Folk Festival explores music and crafts in the Commonwealth. This year’s theme will be “Virginia Contest Traditions,” featuring everything from the oyster shucking contests of the Northern Neck to the fiddle and banjo contests of Southwest Virginia.
