Since its beginning as the National Folk Festival, the Virginia Folklife Area and Stage at the Richmond Folk Festival explores music and crafts in the Commonwealth. This year’s theme will be “Virginia Contest Traditions,” featuring everything from the oyster shucking contests of the Northern Neck to the fiddle and banjo contests of Southwest Virginia.
